Please join Joan Baum to celebrate Shakespeare’s birthday month by way of a talk on Hamlet — – 422 years old and still going strong. Shakespeare’s longest play (over four hours, if performed without cuts), it has attracted over the centuries traditional and experimental directors of stage and screen, musical composers, visual artists, publishers who keep coming out with new annotated editions and translations, choreographers, museum curators and fans who express their admiration by way of parodies, graphic novels, historical fiction, speculative biographies, new scholarship, tours, video series, clothing, children’s versions, playing cards, board games and probably more. What is it about this play that makes itself welcome in so many forms, in different eras, countries and cultures?
This is a hybrid event. Come to the Baldwin Room to join the event in person or sign in on Zoom. A Zoom meeting ID and password will be emailed to all participants 15 minutes prior to the start of the event.
